It is the aim of Meithrinfa Cwtsh Cynnes to provide a safe, secure, happy and stimulating environment for our children.
We are registered for a maximum of 27 children per day and provide both full and part time care for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old. There is a waiting list and we operate on a first come first serve basis and take names as early as possible to ensure your child’s place.
We welcome people from all cultural, ethnic, religious and social groups, with or without any disabilities or special needs. We have toys and activities available to suit the age range, ways and beliefs of everyone in these groups. We play and educate through the Welsh and English language, and plan all activities using the six areas of learning.
We treat each child as an individual and work in partnership with parents, ensuring they have access to all policies, procedures and inspection reports before and during the time their child/children are registered with the nursery.
Informal visits are arranged for the parents/guardians and children to discuss the admission of their child and for the child to meet staff and experience different aspects of the nursery before starting. These visits make the child’s first day more familiar and help them to accustom themselves with the nursery activities, routines and staff, parents also gain an insight into how their child is going to be spending their days.
Care is provided under the terms and conditions of the policies and procedures of the nursery.
Extreme care is taken to ensure your child’s safety at the nursery, however accidents do happen. An accident book is kept on the premises and all accidents are recorded in it and signed by members of staff present and the parents/guardians. Parents/guardians also receive a copy.
Breakfast, lunch and tea are provided for your child, weekly time tables are available, milk, water and an afternoon snack are also provided. These are included in the daily cost of the childcare. We try our best to accommodate all dietary requirements and all meals are freshly prepared using fresh ingredients whenever possible.
Weekly fees: £160.50 per week
£33.50 per day
£23.50 per half day – 7.45-1.00pm or 1.00pm-6.00pm
We also have a term time only contract in place. We also try and be as flexiable as possible to help parents out, always ask about other suitable hours and payments. All payments are made one month in advance and any extra days from the contracted days will appear on the following month’s bill. All payments are due on the 1st of each month and no later than the 7th of each month. A £5 charge will be incurred daily until payment is received which will then be added to the following month’s bill. If for any reason you experience problems in paying your bill, please come and speak to the manager as soon as possible so you don’t incur any charges.
A fire drill is carried out once a term and fire extinguishers are checked annually. Smoke alarms are fitted and checked regularly and there is a fire drill policy in place. A daily register is completed of every child attending. We have a handover and collection policy which is available for parents and cannot release any child to any other person than named unless we are informed by parents/guardians to do so.
Policies and procedures
Policies and procedures are kept on the premises at all times and are available for inspection to all at any time. It is recommended that everyone reads them.
All staff are vetted by the manager before they commence work and all hold an up to date CRB. All staff hold relevant qualifications or are working towards them. We always follow the recommended child/staff ratios.
Parents/guardians are informed by telephone when a place becomes available for their child and are invited to arrange a visit to the nursery. At the first visit parents/guardians will be given any additional information they require about the setting along with registration and assessment forms which need to be completed before the child’s first day, further visits will also be arranged.
All parents/guardians are given assessment and registration forms which need to be completed as soon as possible. These forms provide us with vital information for staff. The statement on the reverse side of the registration form must be read and signed if in agreement. All information is confidential and necessary in case of an emergency. Parents/guardians will also be asked to sign a contract between themselves and the nursery which they will have a copy of.
Complaints or problems
If you have any worries about your child’s welfare in or out of the nursery please speak to myself (Lisa, Manager), deputy manager, supervisor or your child’s key worker. Complaints regarding the running of the nursery or a member of staff should be made to the manager or deputy manager. All complaints are taken seriously and will be dealt with within 14 days of receiving them. Formal complaints will be dealt with within 35 days of receiving them. A notice board is on display in the hallway. Please check it regularly as any new information will be posted on it. If anyone is wishing to use the information board to advertise/display something then please speak to a member of staff.
Please put names on all personal belongings so they don’t get mixed up with someone else’s. There is a no smoking policy throughout the premises. If any parent/guardian has a skill or talent that may be of any interest to the children please let a member of staff know.
Areas of learning
Language, literacy and communication skills, personal and social development and well being, mathematical development, bilingual and multi-cultural understanding, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical development and creative development. There are both planned adult led activities and child led activities as well as free play where the children have the opportunity to explore and create things themselves.
These areas of learning offer education which will lead to desirable learning outcomes and a good stepping stone for school.
Key worker system
Every child who attends the nursery will be allocated a key worker. The key worker will be responsible for giving out information on what your child has been doing during the day. It is also their responsibility to plan and carry our activities with your child in line with their individual development needs. All members of staff are very approachable and will be happy to discuss anything with you.
We work to the national minimum standards set by the CSSIW in relation to staff/child ratios: children under 2 years old – 1 staff member to 3 children
Children over 2 years old – 1 staff member to 4 children
Children over 3 years old – 1 staff member to 8 children
At the nursery we have some fish as pets which are kept in the downstairs playroom. All the children love helping to look after and feed the fish. We think that this is a good way of teaching the children the importance of looking after other living things and how to do this.
